On January 1, 2017, Med Pharma Service GmbH took over the products of TRUW Arzneimittel GmbH.
For more than 100 years, doctors, pharmacists, naturopaths, and patients have associated the name TRUW with high-quality homeopathic and phytotherapeutic medicines, as well as innovative dietary supplements.
Based in Berlin, Med Pharma Service GmbH is an owner-managed, medium-sized pharmaceutical company that develops its own medicines, medical devices, orthomolecular Omnival products, and Omnival food supplements, which are sold exclusively through pharmacies. Our company policy is focused on producing high-quality products, maintaining a high service level, and ensuring customer satisfaction.
Founded in Berlin in 1998, the origins of Med Pharma Service GmbH date back to 1923. At that time, pharmacist Dr. Ludwig Tell and his cousin Ernst Tell ran a pharmaceutical company in eastern Berlin.
Offering a wide range of services, Med Pharma Service GmbH is an important partner in the healthcare sector. The Berlin-based company provides services ranging from full analytical work to manufacturing and pharmaceutical logistics. In addition, the company itself produces pharmaceutical products. For more than 50 years, it has been manufacturing lyophilized probiotic lactic acid bacteria and developing concepts for their use for customers.
Founded in 1998, the company’s roots trace back to 1923, when pharmacist Dr. Ludwig Tell and his cousin Ernst Tell managed a pharmaceutical enterprise in East Berlin. Under the name Fabrik Chemisch-Pharmaceutical Preparations Dr. Tell & Co. GmbH, they created the MED product line—still in use today—and developed and distributed the pain-relief remedy Eu-Med, which remains successful.
By the late 1920s, Uro-Med and Cal-Med were developed, strengthening both the MED line and the company's reputation as an innovative pharmaceutical manufacturer. Between 1935 and 1938, the founders sold their company shares to J. C. Pflüger. During the war, production was moved to Melsungen near Kassel until 1947. In 1947, the entrepreneur renamed the company MED Fabrik chemisch-pharmaz. J. Carls Pflüger Preparations. Under difficult post-war conditions, production of Eu-Med and Uro-Med resumed at the company’s new headquarters in Berlin-Neukölln.
A second era began in 1958, focusing on biological research. The company developed the first bacterial blend based on physiological intestinal microbes, launched in 1960 under the name Omniflora. When the founder’s son, Klaus Pflüger, joined the company, the sole proprietorship became a corporation.
The following years were turbulent. In 1986, MED was integrated into the Ciba Geigy Group, and in 1992 the company was placed under Ciba Geigy’s subsidiary Zyma. In 1996, after the merger of Ciba Geigy and Sandoz forming the Novartis Group, the business operations were incorporated into the Novartis Consumer Health division. Two years later, Dr. Willy Thenn, Head of Novartis Product Supply, founded the present-day Med Pharma Service GmbH in Berlin. Over the next decade, he transformed the plant into a modern, service-oriented healthcare service provider. He developed a broad range of supply services for contract manufacturing, including analytical services, packaging, warehousing, and logistics.
Since 2006, his sons Stefan and Andreas Thenn have strengthened the management of the family business and led it into a new generation.
